Breast Augmentation Incisions and Placement
We have many choices of incisions to place the implant. In addtion the breast implant can be placed underneath the muscle or above the muscle.
Periareolar Incision
- Best choice for natural shape
- Incison hidden under dark areola around nipple
- Can be incorporated in a breast lift to remove loose skin
Inframammary Incision
- Incision hidden under fold of the the breast
- Better in patients with well defined folds
Transaxillary Incision
- Incision away from the breast
- Higher chance of implant displacement, separation
- Revision may require periareolar or inframammary incision
Transumbilical Incision, TUBA
- Not recommended by manufacturer
- Higher chance of implant displacement, separation
- Incsion away from breast
- Difficult to place implant under muscle, submuscular
- Revision may requre periareolar or inframammmary incsion
Submuscular implant placement, under the muscle
- Less visibility and palpability of implant for more natural result
- Less risk of capsular contracture
- Longer surgery and recovery
Suglandular implant placement, above the muscle
- More risk of implant visibility and palpability
- More risk of capsular contracture
- Shorter surgery and recovery
